Oberon council bids for expanded jail
A newly appointed regional coroner is investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a 22-year-old woman who died after being jailed for six months for possession of drugs.
Victoria Police confirmed a woman had died at a Northcote jail in Northcote on November 7 but there has been no update on what the circumstances are surrounding her death.
A Victorian Police spokeswoman said inquiries 바카라사이트into the coroner’s findings would be made.
“There will be a decision in the coming weeks on what will be the next step for our inquiry,” she said.
“It’s in the normal course of events that at any time, a coronial inquest is necessary,” she said.
The Northcote jail is a 24-hour facility where inmates are held after police make contact with them on behalf of the Australian Federal Police.
“It is known that the female victim, and the female victim’s friend, died on that particular day. They were all under the direct supervision of their fellow inmates,” Acting Superintendent Peter Deacon said.
“But our investigation at the moment is looking at the circumstances of these two deaths – and the circumstances of a female victim and a female victim’s friend, who died in that prison.”
Victorian Coroner Dr James Gorman also laid to rest the memory of the woman on Wednesday.
